The Science of Skincare

At the primary cellular level, the skin has three principal antagonists:
Oxidative stress
DNA damage
Inflammation
These lead to damage and ageing of the skin.

Ageing skin is identifiable by a reduction in the thickness, moisture, and elasticity, as well as a change in colour.

The main environmental factor resulting in damage to the skin is; UV radiation from the sun (or from sunbeds). The secondary effect is smoking and air pollution.

However, even in the most perfect environment and by adopting the ideal lifestyle everyone develops some wrinkles with age.

Moreover, when we consider skin health, ageing is not the only adversary that we must consider. Our skin is also afflicted by several common conditions characterised by different types of blemishes.
